Managing controllers is a bit complicated on Windows, especially if you use several identical controllers.
On some PCs, you may have a reversal of the player order when restarting your PC.

There are several hardware for controllers: D-input, X-input... and the one that is the most compatible is Microsoft's X-input.

Here is what we recommend for a simple and optimal experience with RetroBat. (and to save you from having to use software like X360ce)

If you use RetroBat on your PC, just with one or more controllers, we recommend without hesitation, Xbox 360 or Xbox One (official) controllers, wired or not.

With these controllers, you will have better compatibility, and therefore fewer problems.

You can also use 8bit-do type controllers, which allow you to choose the X-input mode (often recognized as an Xbox controller under Windows).

Or any other X-input compatible controller.

At Ben Factory,(French shop) we recommend these 2 controller cards, packed with options (USB-C, LED management, etc.) and which are at a very good price.
(one per player) it's homemade!:

You can use the promotional code: retrobat10 to get 10% off these items.

---------------------

Avoid Xinmotek, Zero delay type controllers etc...

This does not mean that your controller will not be compatible, but you may have some problems.

This list will be updated regularly, when our tests are conclusive.

I've found Retrobat to be pretty good about controllers - I mean, P1 and P2 are both able to be used through the menus - it's the individual emulators that can experience trouble if the USB connections are changed. So as long as you're not running games with auto-configure controllers, if the ports switch you are generally OK.
