Best way to manage/add Homebrew / RomHacks?
Hello All -
I am a pretty experienced RetroArch (standalone / LaunchBox) user; but new to RetroBat with minimal EmulationStation knowledge. I've used it with RetroPie builds and added roms, but not much customization.
I am mainly using RetroBat to see if I can move away from LaunchBox on my ROG Ally as I am preferring this to using BigBox for retro gaming.
One issue I am running into is organizing my games - mainly my HomeBrew / RomHack collections for SNES, N64, Genesis, and GBA.
I'd love to create a new 'system' and load artwork to have this available in the front end, but understand that modifying the es_systems.cfg might not be the best choice if I want support.
Is there anyway to 'nest' a folder within the System's currently so I can access a subfolder of games. IE within the GameList to have a folder "SNES Rom Hacks"?
If this is not possible, would it be possible to put in a Feature Request to have systems added in BatGui that are possibly disabled unless someone looking for an advanced config wants to enable them?
TYA In advance - loving this so far and learning

Hello, and welcome there.
You get different ways to reach your goal :
- using a subfolder into the corresponding roms folder > you can choose to display the subfolder while entering the "main" system, and got the possibility to dress it with pictures (ex below)
- you can also use es_systems_custom > while we advise to not touch to the original es_systems.cfg file (which is changed also within RetroBat updates, to add more systems), we understand that people need some personnal touch. In this way, you can create a "custom" es_system file, where you can create some variation.
In this case, you will saw a new wheel, that you can dress up by adding assets name as the new system on the theme folder.

Thanks
- after activate "show folder" option
- go to developer option, and activate "search for local art"
- name your picture "NameOfTheFolder-image.png" and place it on the folder \vectrex\images
- update gamelist
