Post by Eusebe32 05/09/24, 10:20 am

Hello,
I am trying to set Model 2 and the retro shooter light guns and I can't seem to have the guns hooked.
When I tried to just install Emulation Station and Model 2, it works without any problem, but when I use RetroBat, it doesn't work at all.
Can anyone help me on this subject?
All other systems work (NES, Model 3,...) but model 2
And when I run model 2 outside of RetroBat, it also works

I'm lost here.

Thank you so much

Hello,
Try and compare the model2 ini file when run from Retrobat and when run outside of Retrobat, I guess it's just a question of gun index, but without more details on what does not work it's difficult to answer.

Well, the funny thing is, if I run the emulator from the folders (from x:\rertobat\emulators) it works. When i run it from the retrobat.exe, I can't use the guns.

It is like if RetroBat overwrites the INI file for Model2

Hello,

It does change values in the file, this is why I asked you to compare.

Thank you I have found a solution. I have put the m2emulator EMULATOR.INI (located at \RetroBat\emulators\m2emulator) file in read only and now I can use the Retro Shooter guns without any problem.

Have a nice day

That is not at all a solution, in fact you do not want to help to improve RetroBat ! Let's close and no more help for you !

If you would just send us both files :
- The one you use and works
- The one created by RetroBat when ran from RetroBat

We could fix the issue instead of finding a bad way to fix (as this will disable all options like resolution, etc.)

Let's not jump to conclusions and let's also not be agressive.
I was ill for 2 weeks, I didn't have the chance to work on this and I just shared a way that worked for me... if it's not the right way, I'm more than happy to help (otherwise I would not have come here, right?)

Now, here is what we find in the files,
the first one is the one that works, is in the m2emulator folder from retrobat
m2emulator normal:

The second one is from retrobat, once the emulator is open.

Is there another way to send the files? I've copied/pasted the info into the message and I marked the differences in the second part (see spoilers in my last message.

I hope it helps

Ok, so all these options are available from Retrobat menu, i guess if you just put "force raw input" to on and "p2 gun id" to 2, it will fix.

Also please send me the emulatorlauncher.log file, as it finds 3 guns for your system, thus setting indexes 0 and 2 as per priority (i guess you have multiple mice connected + guns).

Thank you, I will try this and come back to you tomorrow at the latest

For the 3 guns, I guess it's because the Retro Shooters are seen as a mouse (from my understanding)

Ok, so I tried with the options, I now can see the crosshair, but I have the problem that it goes from one corner to another and I can't aim anything.
I will try to fiddle with the m2emulator while playing, but I'm not convinced it will help.

Here are the log info for the last 2 days:

Ok and if you compare both .ini files are there still differences ?
Maybe force feedback or something else is generating this behaviour...

If the .ini files are identical, than there should be no differences between the way you did it (lock file for changes) and now

So, I checked and I didn't find any differences.
The issue is that the mouse is moving from one corner to another and it's hard to have it to move anywhere else (besides if I move milimeter by milimeter). I tried changing values in m2emulator (F2 then gun settings) but nothing changed.
If I run the emulator by myself, it doesn't do this
I tried to change values in RetroBat (game options, controles, analogic deadzone & analogic sensitivity) and same here, no changes noticed

I'll continue to do some test, but if you have any other ideas... as I'm a bit lost here.

Thanks a lot

Hello,

It's not possible that it does it differently when launched from RetroBat versus when launched in standalone if the .ini file is exactly similar.

The only possibility is that the calibration (in the NVRAM file) is different when running the game from RetroBat or running it in standalone.
==> Do you use the same model2 folder and roms folder for testing ?

My mistake. The main difference lays in:
EnableFF=0 for RetroBat while it's EnableFF=1 when I set up the emulator.
I don't seem to find the option to work on this in Retrobat

And yes, I use the emulator from the Retrobat\emulator folder as well as the roms from Retrobat\roms folder

I will also try to alow the use of templates... who knows
[EDIT] it doesn't change anything

EnableFF can be found in the "WHEELS" section of retrobat options

I will try to do this, but first I would like to see what happens when I change line by line the ini file.
From the RetroBat version to the one I use.

For me the rawinput two players does not work under model2 and I am surprised that you indicate the opposite. Unless you can show me that m2emulator allows to activate two lightgun natively? (the red pointer and the blue pointer must be visible and move independently)

The rawinput option multi-mouse and player 2 is an error, only the choice of player 1 index should be available.

So to date, only demulshooter allows to do it. If you wish I coded a plugin for retrobat that allows to automate the execution of demulshooter and some options without having to use an alternative es-custom version with .bat https://archive.org/details/retrobat-script-demulshooter-packes-custom-nixx.-7z

I have found the culprit.
After modifiing line by line I have seen that when I put 0 on "UseRawInput=" then the aim works.
The only downside is that I won't be able to play with 2 guns, but it's OK for me (as I have tons of other games where I can play with 2).

Unless we find a solution, I will stick to this for the moment.

Have a nice day and thank you for your patience

This is known issue with model2 emulator, 2 players does ONLY work with external tool like demulshooter...

The sinden wiki can help understand all this.

I suggest a solution with demulshooter in my previous message.
