RetroBat Startup Time Empty RetroBat Startup Time

Post by retromic 28/12/20, 01:07 pm

Hi All,

My first post to this forum.
RetroBat is running fine on my system and it's an amazing tool.

I have a strange behaviour to start RetroBat on my System and i am wondering if this is a known case.
I use a Intel I9, Geforce 2070 PC. RetroBat is on an ext. 4TB WD HDD connected via USB3.0.
I have approx 16000 Games on approx 50 Systems. (All VMAN Addon Packs).

If i start the computer, RetroBat startup time is arround 1min 10sec.
Then i close RetroBat and i re-start it, it needs 3sec to boot.

Is this a known behaviour , that first RetroBat boot needs longer than the following boots?

If i eject the ext HD and replug it, it also needs 1min 10sec to boot.
If i have connected a second ext HD (1TB SSD), RetroBat boot time increases to 3min.

All in all it is not i big issue, i am just wondering if there is something known about this behaviour.

Thanks for any thoughts about this.

Regards

Thank you Lorenzolamas for your quick reply.
"Parse Gamelists only" reduces the first RetroBat boot down to 40sec. The following RetroBat boot only needs 1-3sec.
I like to find the reason for that. Not even sure it is related to retrobat, might be my system.
I just turned off Windows defender, but it didn't help.

PS. Oui, je parle francais, mais je ne sais pas tres bien de l'ecrire.
PS2 Si tu veux bouger ce thread vers la section francais, tu peux et je continue en francais  Embarassed

PRELOAD UI made it even longer, because after reading all systems it preloads the UI.
Give me a minute, i move around some files, then i can test again.

Si tu as compris mon francais, on change à francais. Pas de problème...

Thank you so far.

I told the developer of EmulationStation about your problem.
We will have to wait for him to make a comeback.

On the first start, there's no Windows file caching yet. What is taking so long is the "fileexist" test. When you have a fast SSD or USB drive, or once Windows has cached the file system, it's really fast. But, If you have an old mechanical HDD with > 30 access time... It takes that time. Plus, it take also time according to the theme you have. Some themes with random playlists take a lot of time to load too...
There's no magic...
