New user question Empty New user question

Post by Gumdoc 13/04/21, 05:19 pm

Hi All,

I currently have Emulationstation running on Windows but am considering switching to Retrobat for some of the additional features. My question is, can Retrobat be installed over ES or is this a separate install? I've spent hours fine tuning ES, the XML files, scraping media, etc., I really don't want to have to start from scratch if I don't have to. Looked through the FAQ but couldn't find anything about this...

Thanks for any help.

Hello

Which version of emulationstation do you use ? The original version, out of date ?

No, I'm using the 2.10.ORP-DEV version, which I believe is newer.

Hello, normally your gamelist.xml files and your media are compatible with Retrobat's ES.

It seems that you use a version which is allready a fork of the original emulationstation, but for Retropie
https://github.com/jrassa/EmulationStation

Retrobat use also a fork, but that as follow a different way that yours, to be use with Batocera (and now Retrobat)
https://github.com/fabricecaruso/batocera-emulationstation

So, it's possible that some options are a little bit different (some folder roms name, display...) but there are mainly the same.
But Retrobat is doing himself the paramaters of emulationstation. So if you don't tell him to not overide, Retrobat will change your emulationstation settings.

EDIT : what are the other files that you have adapted, in addition to gamelist and all emulationstation .cfg files ?

I think that's mostly it, the .cfg files in the ES folder, the .xml files in each roms folder, there's a media folder that was created by Skraper in each roms folder with images, maquee, and video subfolders, all my Retroarch settings, etc.

So, just to be clear, when I install Retrobat, it gives me the option of overriding the ES folder? I just wasn't sure how the program actually installs. I can just backup that folder and restore it if I don't like Retrobat...

Thanks.

When you install Retrobat, it will install also his version of emulationstation in his folder.
So you can move your files there.
