How do you run/iinstall dos games?

ive spent all day reading guides and watching videos but so far none have helped to get dos games running on retrobat.

ive copied the dos game into the rom folder for dos
ran retrobat and it lists all the files individually rather than by game

so i read somewhere that you need to add .pc to the end of the folder name.
did that and the games show as individual games, but when you click on them dosbox pure advises no files found.

so I deleted the .pc at the end of the folder name and added .pc to the install batch file for doom 2 and it shows as install on the retrobat menu and does run and install doom 2. however it doesnt recognise the doom2.exe and despite using dosbox pure to say run doom2.exe on startup it continues to run the installer.

anyone know what to do or can point me to a relevant guide would be very helpful
